My question is what is the stand of all parties on In Vitro Fertilization for the infertile couples (voters) of Newfoundland and Labrador? Many couples in this province have a medical situation that does not allow them to conceive naturally. Why are we being denied access to this medical procedure and why is it not covered by MCP? According to the World Health Organization, infertility is considered a disability. If it is a disability, why are we being discriminated against by not being able to avail of the last resort treatment of IVF? It costs about 10,000 dollars - travel out of province, hotels, meals, fertility drugs and the medical procedures themselves. Why won't the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador help the infertile couples of this province who want to have children? I believe that it is discriminatory to give fertile people $1000 per child born when there are infertile couples who can't have children without medical intervention.
