Danny Williams expects that he will win this election because
he is "Danny Williams". Why else would every single
campaign sign say 'A Member Of The Danny Williams Team'?
He has repeatedly refused to debate issues in public. Why will
he not debate post secondary education or insurance reform? What
does he have to hide?
As a student, that will soon be graduating, the PC party has
not made one policy that catches my attention. They have talked
about the problem of out migration but have failed to offer any
other options or incentives to stay.
The Liberals are at least offering a $100,000 tax break. The
PC’s have also proposed cuts at Memorial University.
I can tell you first hand that there is nothing extravagant
at Memorial. The majority of our labs have been using the same
equipment since the 1960’s. I guess we could cut back on
the replacement vacuum tubes.
The problems facing each party are the same. The royalties from
our resources are virtually non existent. The health care system
is in trouble. Education is suffering. And the list goes on.
Does any party really think that they have a better chance than
the other of making these things better? I agree that each party
will take a different approach and may be able to fix some problems
but new ones will be created. In the end we need the federal government
to be on our side. We need more of the royalties from our resources.
The NDP is the only party that actually has support from their
federal counterparts.
You could very easily spend hours discussing the issues surrounding
Newfoundland and this election but, barring some exceptional changes,
I think that in the end the conclusion is the same. A PC government
lead by Danny Williams will be bad news.
