MESSY MESSY MESSY

Hey Folks,

So here's the latest on this Mess of a Winter System moving in... I'm going to break it down into regions who will be seeing the most severe weather.

St. John's, The Avalon, The Burin Peninsula
Freezing rain warning in effect.

Looks like a solid 5-10 cm of Snow and Blowing Snow before things change over to Freezing Rain near midnight. Winds gusting to 70 km/h in from the North. The latest forecast run was lighter on the freezing rain period... but I think it could still be a decent 2-4 hour event before temperatures warm up enough to turn things to rain before morning. The morning drive COULD still be very slippery depending on the time of the transition to rain. 10 mm of Rain and FOGGY on Friday.

Clarenville, Bonavista, Terra Nova.
Freezing rain warning in effect.

Similar deal... just later. 5-10 cm of Snow and Blowing Snow overnight... before a 2-4 hour period of Freezing Rain early early tomorrow morning. Your drive to work will be slick. Rainfall will take over early to mid-morning, 10 mm and FOGGY Friday.

Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor, Buchans and the Interior, Bonavista North, Bay of Exploits,
Winter storm watch in effect
Freezing Rain Warning in effect

Snow and Blowing Snow starts overnight and it will continue to Snow and Blow tomorrow with 5-10 cm... with local amounts as much as 15 cm. That Snow will change to Freezing Rain, again for up to 2 or 3 hours, between late morning and early afternoon then followed by 10 mm of afternoon Rain.

Green Bay - White Bay
Winter storm watch in effect.

Snow and Blowing Snow starts tomorrow morning and will drop 10 cm before changing to rain early in the afternoon. The model is showing a pretty period of Freezing Rain here LATE afternoon and early evening as the temperature hovers around the freezing mark. 20-30 mm of Rain here by Saturday morning.

Corner Brook, Deer Lake, Humber Valley, Gros Morne & The West Coast.

Periods of Snow throughout the day, as much as 5 cm of Snow. That could mix in with a bit of Rain in thea afternoon. For you folks it looks like a change over to Freezing Rain in the Evening and into Overnight. Could see a solid period of Freezing Rain before Saturday morning. I think we could see Freezing Rain Warnings issued for you folks tomorrow at some point.

The Northern Peninsula East & Southeast Labrador
Winter Storm Watch
Snow and blowing snow by mid-day with 10 cm of Snow falling before a change over to Freezing Rain in the afternoon. Things should change to Rain in the evening... 10-15 mm.

Coastal Labrador

Periods of Snow Friday afternoon 5-10 cm. Looks like a changeover to Freezing Rain late evening and overnight. It will be Raining by Saturday morning.

Happy Valley- Goose Bay

Snow and Blowing Snow in the afternoon... as much as 5-10 cm. Perhaps another 5-10 cm overnight before mixing to Freezing Rain late overnight and early Saturday morning.

Labrador City and Wabush.

Just flurries tomorrow... it's Saturday and Sunday that look Snowy and Windy in Western Labrador.

See you tonight,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

We watch your program every week night and truly enjoy it. You are a wonderful weather man. Just wanted to let you know that our four year old son, Joshua, has truly taken a liking to watching you forecast the weather. He focuses on you 100%. Tonight, he was repeating you saying Snow, mixed and sunny. He even read ahead when you were doing the 5 day forecasts.. Keep up the great work!

Hmmmmm! That sounds very familar to the weathernetwork forcast I saw 4-5 days ago? Imagine I got that forcast 5 days ago in five minutes! With the CBC bit by bit daily it would of taken me 7-1/2 hours spread over 5 days to get that! Thank god I'm not a fishermen or someone who's life depends on the CBC forcast! Should be ashamed of yourselves using life saving information to boost ratings!

I have to agree with Kim in the previous comment. Our 3-year-old son will tell us to let him know when you're going to be giving out the weather. It's amazing how you attract children while giving out the weather...keep up the good work!!

Joe-if you are using the weather network as your benchmark for forecasts then I say thank god you are not a fisherman or we would have the coast guard out looking for you all the time. I like getting our weather forecast local and not out of ontario.....that's just me.

Well Max I always check multiple forcast over multiple areas. Radar maps, jet streams, projected temps, etc..... Whatever info I can get that may give me better info. Since I live more inland and have mountain influence as well I have realized there is no great accuracy. However after 10 years of comparison I have figured out that the most accurate forcast is the weathernetwork. I couldn't care less if it is based out of mexico! I may not be a fishermen but when I'm back in the long range mountains a wonderful day can become a nightmare in minutes!

I enjoy watching your forecast every evening. I have always had an interest in getting an accurate detailed forecast and you do a great job. We all realize that forecasts are based on computer models and Nfld is one of the most difficult areas to predict because of our location. It is great to have a more accurate local alternative to the weathernetwork. Keep up the great work.
