Wicked Wind Chills

Hey Folks,

Well as expected... it was certainly a Stormy day across the Avalon on Saturday... the Winds were strong and the Snow was blowing... and in the end 14.8 cm of Snow fell at the airport in St. John's.

I'm sure some of you had a bit more or bit less. It's so tough to tell when it drifts around so much. You'll remember Friday night I went with 5-10 cm for St. John's and the Northern Avalon and 10-15 cm for the Southeastern section. And in the end the Storm ended up tracking just a little bit Northwest and that 15 cm line shifted just a bit. However overall, with the flip flopping this storm did on the forecast models... even just a few hours out... I'm generally content with the way things played out. Because we could have easily ended up with 30-40 cm dumping.

This way, the snow lovers had some... and snow haters didn't get pounded!

Alright on to what's happening now.

Our Low from the Weekend is stalled out in the Labrador Sea spinning Strong Winds, Cold Temperatures and Snow across Labrador. Those Cold temps and Winds are pushing right into Newfoundland where Wind Chills are into the minus teens this afternoon.

BLOWING SNOW WARNINGS
We have Blowing Snow Warnings in effect for the Coast of Labrador from Nain right down through the Straits and for the Northern Peninsula as well. Generally 5-10 cm of Snow will fall today with Wind Gusts of 80 to 100 km/h are creating zero viability. Things will stay unsettled tomorrow and will slowly start to improve Wednesday and into Thursday.

LONGER RANGE POINTS
-As our Low from the weekend starts to fade out to the Northeast through the mid-week we'll start to see temperatures bump up a bit and those brisk winds will ease as well.
-I'm tracking another blast of Arctic Cold which could end up sinking into our neck of the woods around this coming weekend.
-The next potential system I'm watching will be brewing up in the Gulf of Mexico this coming weekend. Whether it decides to track up the Coast and into our neck of the woods... or crosses the U.S. Southeast and heads out to sea... remains to be seen.

As always I'll let you know.

Ryan
