Sunday Snow or No?
Hey Folks, Before I get to the subject of Sunday, I want to talk about the extended period of Freezing Rain you folks in Central Newfoundland could see tomorrow. FREEZING RAIN WARNING IN EFFECT FOR THURSDAY Grand Falls Windsor and vicinity As we move into Thursday a trough (or weak Low) will move up from the South. West of the trough we'll be seeing Snow mixing with Freezing Rain in Central Newfoundland... especially into the afternoon. RAIN RAIN RAIN More on this story tonight on Here & Now. FLURRIES FOR FRIDAY Most of the Province is looking at Flurries in the forecast for Friday. Looks like 2-4 cm is a safe bet for almost everyone... however the West Coast of Newfoundland could actually see as much as 5-10 cm. This weak system tracking in from Southwest doesn't have much juice but even 5-10 would be nice for the hills at Marble. SNOW FOR SUNDAY? The last couple days I've been watching the forecast models closely with a system developing over Texas and the Gulf of Mexico today and tomorrow. The forecast track takes the System into the U.S. Southeast for Friday and Saturday before it turns Northeast. GEM Model- Has been liking the idea of the system developing into a decent sized Low which hits Eastern Newfoundland on Sunday. This models has been trending East over the past 36 hours. Here's the latest forecast model run from this morning. GFS Model- A few days ago was right there with the GEM blowing up a good sized system capable of dropping a good shot of Snow. However over the past day, the GFS has completely abandoned that idea and is now showing more of a Long Wave which stays Southeast of Newfoundland. European Model- Can't make up it's mind. Yesterday afternoon this model was blowing up a Solid Storm for Eastern Newfoundland. This Morning, it has completely backed off and is now looking more like the GFS wave idea. Safe to say this model is officially in the undecided category. It's only Wednesday, so we still have a handful of days to watch and figure out what's in store for Sunday. However, I wanted to give you the heads up that there could be something brewing... and I'm watching it closely. Ryan Your Comments

let it snow yayayay how much snow are we getting get back to me
Hi Ryan. I must say I like your approach to forecasting much better than the others. No one else will share the inforamtion as you do, ie., the three models. As someone who watches the weather closely to plan recreation events (snowmobiling)I understand the issues you encounter when you have to interpret three models to provide an accurate forcast. What I don't understand is the continued strange weather patterns and the really strange tracks these systems are taking in respect to eastern NFLD. Any explanation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kevin
