Thursday Snow Update and...

Hey Folks,

SNOWFALL WARNING IN EFFECT FOR:

St. John's and Vicinity
Avalon Peninsula North
Avalon Peninsula South
Burin Peninsula

These are all regions which are expected to see at least 15 cm or 6 inches of Snow on Thursday.

MODEL TRACKS

So this morning I woke up, got out of bed, and of course the first thing I do is run to the computer and take a look at the latest forecast model runs. I couldn't believe it, the GEM and GFS model runs were telling pretty much the same story. Even the European model has a similar idea. The track will take the Centre of Low just Southeast of the Island and then right up the Southern Shore on Thursday.

SO HOW MUCH SNOW?

With this latest track I'm going to bump up my Snowfall totals for the extreme Southeast of the Province... but not by much. Good news for you folks on the Avalon and Burin Peninsula's. However you poor Snow starved folks in Central Newfoundland are going to be ripped off again. This won't drop much Snow all West of Terra Nova.

Here's my latest map.

Now, we still have the latest model runs coming out this afternoon, so I'll take a look at those and if I need to, I'll update this map again for Here & Now tonight. So make sure you tune in for the very latest.

WINDS

Winds will be in from the East Northeast in the morning at about 40-60 km/h. However as we move into the afternoon winds will shift in from the North and they'll be steady around 50 km/h with gusts to 70.
With all the fresh Snow on the ground, the later part of the day could be really messy with Local Blowing Snow and drifting. The Drive home from Work tomorrow will be much worse than the drive to work.

RRRRRRRRA..... I CAN'T EVEN SAY IT

You folks who love the Snow... I think you should go out this weekend and enjoy what little bit you have.
I'm watching a system which is rolling onto the Coast of California right now. It will cross the Continent this weekend and then move into our Province for Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
For Newfoundland Snow lovers it's not looking good with a Warm Southerly flow.
I'll leave it at that for now... but I'll have more details over the next few days as this thing moves closer.
