Close Call Next Week?

Hey Folks,

COLD SHOT
Jan1510.JPG
Well, the first thing we should talk about is the Arctic Airmass getting set to roll in over the next 3 days.
Today that chilly air is rolling into Labrador... dropping temperatures in the West today and the East tonight.
Tomorrow it arrives in Newfoundland... where both West and Central portions of the Island will see a drop in afternoon temperatures and Wind chills will be bitter.
That Cold air arrives in Eastern Newfoundland on Sunday and into Monday.

I think the biggest thing with this Blast of Cold won't necessarily be the temperatures... but the Winds... and the Wind Chills that come with them. In Western Labrador, on Saturday Sunday and Monday it will feel into the -30's. Eastern Labrador: the -30's. Western Island: -15 to mid -20's. Central Island: -15 to mid -20's. Eastern Island: Saturday won't be bad at all. However Sunday & Monday will feel into the -20's.

SNOW NEXT WEEK???

I'm looking at another close call for Eastern Newfoundland next week. Remember a few days back I told you about that system that was going to be brewing up in the Gulf of Mexico this weekend? Well it's brewing up as we speak. All week long, the models have been trying to figure out where exactly it's going to track and the idea seems to be to the Northeast and up through the Mid Atlantic states... grazing New York City and New England.

That track of course puts it on our radar here in Newfoundland... but will it hit? Well, the European and Canadian models are both strong on a solid MISS. They take the system well to the Southeast of the Island and out to sea. Here's a look at the Canadian model.

The American GFS model has another idea. It's weaker and further West with that area of High pressure sinking South from the Arctic bringing us all the Cold weather this weekend. That weaker High doesn't push that Low far enough Southeast... and as a result... it clips Southeastern Newfoundland with a shot of Snow on Monday night-Tuesday.

Very similar storm track to our system last weekend... but a much different setup with the High just to the Northwest. My feeling is, it's going to be a miss. That High is just too strong and I like the Euro and Canadian models right now.

Having said that, I'm going to be keeping a very close eye on the forecast models this weekend.

Have a great weekend. Bundle Up!!!

Ryan
