Watching the Fri-Sat System

Hey Folks,

As I mentioned last night on Here & Now... I'm watching a system which looks set to roll into Newfoundland on Friday and into Saturday. This one could be interesting and I'll get to that in a minute but first some points moving forward over the next few days.

Tonight
-Our system moving through Newfoundland tonight will drop 10-20 mm of Rain across the Island.
-We could see as much as 25 mm along some parts of the South Coast.
-The Northern Peninsula could pick up 5-10 cm of Snow before you change to rain overnight.
-Southeastern Labrador from the Straits to Cartwright could pick up 5-10 cm of Snow as well.

Wednesday
-Things will slowly clear out across Newfoundland tomorrow. I think we could see some afternoon Sunshine in the East. However the West will stay fairly unsettled with a Westerly flow off the Gulf.
-A slow clear out in Labrador as well. Flurries will linger, but nothing in the way of accumulation.

Thursday
-A Nice day. A Few flurries in Western Newfoundland and Western Labrador... but generally the sunshine should dominate.

Friday-Saturday System

-This could be an impressive system. An Alberta clipper forming in the Rockies right now will make it's way across the Country this week and into the Great Lakes by late Wednesday/Thursday. It's when this system gets to the East Coast late Thursday and into Friday that things get interesting.
-The American, Canadian and European models are all jumping on the idea that this system will hit the Coast and turn into good sized Noreaster as it moves North into Newfoundland on Friday and into Saturday.

AMERICAN MODEL

-Of course, now that we are into November the potential for Snow mixing in, or even dominating on the front end and backside of these types of systems is certainly there. And this one looks no different.
-As of now the Canadian model is a little stronger with the Cold air and Snow idea. You can't see on the model above, but I can tell you based on the Cold air it's showing aloft and at the surface, that it's dropping a decent 20 cm shot of Snow anywhere from Port aux Basques to Gander and areas Northwest of that line all the way up the Northern Peninsula. This model isn't showing it right now... but I think there could be some decent mixing happening through Central.
-The American model is showing some decent Cold air wrapping into this thing as well... but more mixing would be involved. This model is showing a good shot of Snow up the West Coast as well. Again, it's soooo tough to say when this thing is 3 or 4 days a way and hasn't even started to form yet... but 10-20 cm is what the model is thinking now... so not far from the Canadian model. However it is showing a decent Rain-Snow mix into Central... which I'm thinking is a better bet right now.

Again, I'll be keeping a close eye on this thing over the next few days and I'll update you as things no doubt change as we get closer to Friday.

Either way this one should be fun!!!

Ryan
