Well here we are. It's hard to believe we are already into October. Thanksgiving and Halloween are just around the corner... it will be no time at all before we're singing fa la la la la!
I don't think there's any doubt that the better part of September has been cloudy and showery for the bulk of Province. Especially the back half of the month. Therefore I think it's surprising that in Newfoundland in September rainfall totals are BELOW average. While in Labrador, totals for the most part are ABOVE normal.
Here are the numbers.
St. John's
About 90 percent of the rainfall in St. John's in September fell in just 3 days! The 14th at 53.2 mm, the 17th at 31 mm and the 24th at 14.6 mm where the 3 main rainfall dates... with a mm here or there for the rest of the month.
AVERAGE SEPT RAINFALL: 130.9 mm
TOTAL RAINFALL: 116.2 mm
Gander
With 10 dry days and 20 rain days in September it's surprising that the Central region came in around 10 mm under average.

You folks had the most NO RAIN days in the Province with 14 out of 30. Not a surprise you're sitting below average for the month.

Deer Lake
By far the driest region in the Province with little amounts of rain sprinkled throughout the month. 22 mm on the 14th was your rainiest day.
AVERAGE SEPT RAINFALL: 96.1 mm
TOTAL RAINFALL: 56.0 mm
Cartwright
A very wet 3 days between the 13th and 15th dropped more than 90 mm of rain for you folks in Southeastern Labrador. Those 3 days accounted for 66 percent of you September rainfall total.
AVERAGE SEPT RAINFALL: 91.8 mm
TOTAL RAINFALL: 138.6 mm
Happy Valley-Goose Bay
A solid 58.4 mm of rain on the 14th put you folks over the hump in HVGB.
AVERAGE SEPT RAINFALL: 95.2 mm
TOTAL RAINFALL: 123.4 mm
Labrador City
You folks in Western Labrador had a very cloudy gloomy and cold September. 3.4 cm of Snow and only 4 rain free days for the whole month!!!
AVERAGE SEPT RAINFALL: 89.3 mm + 6.8 cm
TOTAL RAINFALL: 76.4 mm + 3.4 cm
LOOKING AHEAD
Based on the forecast models and the overall flow, it looks like the unsettled wet pattern is going to continue as we move into next early next week. One system after another after another. However, I'm not seeing any repeats of this locked off pattern of R-D-F anytime soon. So that's some good news for you.
See you tonight!
