Quick Wed Update

3:30 PM UPDATE

For the most part, the heaviest of rain now has pushed off shore... however as we move into this evening still expect some Periods of Heavy Rain through Bonavista, Clarenville and the Avalon... and yes the possibility of some Snow mixing in at times as well. In fact, in some of the higher elevations, picking up 5 cm isn't out of the question.

Now, Winds have really started to ramp up in the last few hours and will really become the main story as we move into this evening. We still have Wind Warnings in effect for the Northeast Coast and the Avalon, where gusts late this afternoon and this evening will reach 110 km/h. Right along the Coast those Gusts could reach 140 km/h.

I'll have much more on our first Fall Storm of the season... tonight on Here & Now.

****12:30 UPDATE****

Callers are reporting SNOW and lots of it on the Trans Canada Highway between Salmonier line and the Witless Bay Line. Apparently the road is covered in slush!!!

The Wind is realy starting to pick up here on the Avalon. St. John's airport is reporting gusts of 72 km/h. One thing to keep in mind is all the leaves that are still on the trees at this time... those leaves will really weigh those branches down and we could see a few more down trees than usual.

ORIGINAL POST

Ok well we still have Rainfall Warnings in effect for Bonavista, Clarenville & the Avalon where 60 mm could fall by the end of the day.
We've been hearing reports of some Wet Snow mixing in with the rain out around Conception Bay and expect more of that, especially out towards the Terra Nova, Gander and Bay of Exploits areas. I myself FOR SURE have witnessed some Wet Snow mixing in already here in St. John's.
The Heavy rain will continue in the East, for a good chunk of the afternoon and something you're really going to notice is the winds. They're really going to ramp up through the afternoon in from the Northwest with gusts to 110 to 140 km/h along the Northeast Coast where wind warnings are in effect.

Check back later on.

Hi Ryan,
I really enjoy watching your weather coverage on Here and Now every evening. Watching your swim last night was most amusing, you are one crazy dude.
The reason I am e-mailing is because I live in Deer Park and the snow started here this morning at around 11:00 a.m. and it is still snowing. Everything is now white. Any idea on how long the snow is expected to last? My dog Sheba is loving it!!! Thank you for the great job you do and how you make watching the weather so interesting.
Take care,
Pam

Hi Ryan,
Love your weather reports! Very detailed and always with a touch of humor! I was wondering if there have been any counts or reports on the amount of rain that has fallen so far?

Hello Ryan:
Beautiful day here at Baie Verte, no wind, and sun and more sun. After all the rain this past summer, all I can say about the East Coast. Let it snow, let it snow.
