NEW LOOK HERE & NOW

Hey Folks,

I don't have much time to talk today... I'm busy here in the Weather Centre getting the new weather graphics ready for Here & Now tonight. I'm really excited about them... I think they look really sharp. I also really like the new music at the very start of my weather. Anyway, you'll get to see and hear everything tonight... so tune in at 5:30 and 6.

STORMY SUNDAY

I talked about this system back on Friday... with the potential for 20-40 mm of rain in Newfoundland and a decent 10-20 cm shot of Snow in Labrador and that's about what came down along with some pretty decent wind gusts.
Happy Valley-Goose Bay was the big winner with 25.6 cm of Snow, shattering the old record for October 25 of 10.4 cm back in 1951! Here are some more highlights from yesterday.

SNOW
Happy Valley Goose Bay- 25.6 cm
Cartwright- 8 cm... and you're in store for more.
Labrador City- 10 cm (Sat+Sun)

RAIN
Port aux Basques- 42 mm
Burgeo- 41 mm
Stephenville- 25 mm
Daniels Harbour- 25 mm
Deer Lake- 20 mm

WIND
Wreckhouse- 115 km/h
Sagona Island- 96 km/h
Daniels Harbour- 93 km/h
Argentia- 89 km/h
Cape Race- 85 km/h

WINDS PICKING UP

Winds are going to be the big story starting today, tonight and tomorrow across the Province. We're already seeing sustained winds of 60 with gusts to 70 this afternoon across Newfoundland. However as we move into tonight and Tuesday our Low from the weekend will really start to spin in the Labrador Sea... and the Northwesterly winds wrapping in behind it will really start to pound the Province.

WIND WARNING- We have Warnings in effect for the Coast of Labrador from Postville to Cartwright with gusts of 100 km/h developing this evening and continuing throughout the day on Tuesday. With another 5-10 cm of Snow falling along that area of Coast as well... it's safe to say Blowing Snow and white-out conditions are certain for tonight and Tuesday.

In Newfoundland the Northwesterly winds will really start to be an issue as well. Sustained winds of 50-60 km/h with gusts to 70 or 80 tonight and tomorrow will really drop temperatures. On top of that, we could see Snow Squalls developing! I think the West Coast of Newfoundland as well as areas along the Northeast Coast like Bonavista, Bay of Exploits and even across the Northern sections of Avalon could pick up 2-5 cm in Local Snow Squalls tonight and early tomorrow.

I'll have more on this story tonight on Here & Now.

Ryan
