Happy Thanksgiving!
Ahhh Thanksgiving. A time for Family, turkey, falling leaves and transition time in the Weather. This is no doubt the time of year when you get a "taste" of everything when it comes to the Weather. You can have little surges of heat, pulses of cold weather, Sunshine, Snow and Thunderstorms all on the same day! The Cold front that's been making its way across the Province yesterday/today indeed gave Newfoundland a taste of everything. From Thunderstorms along the West Coast overnight, to Snowfall this morning in Gander, to Ice Pellets this morning in St. John's. That's right, Light Snow was reported at the Gander airport this morning mixing in with some showers at times, from 7am up until 11am! Welcome to Fall! This front is kicking out today and we'll see a bit of a clear out in behind for Tuesday. Everyone from Labrador City to St. John's will see SOME sunshine tomorrow with a few showers kicking around as well. As we move into the later parts of Tuesday, we're really going to see the clouds thicken up and the showers start to move in from our next system. WEDNESDAY FALL STORM I think it's safe to call the approaching system for Wednesday a "Storm". Typically, a Storm would drop more than 40-50 mm of a rain... or 20-30 cm of Snow... with wind gusts between 80 and 100 km/h. So this system certainly has a chance to meet that criteria. Here's the deal as of now... -The Canadian model is really wrapping up a nice looking system. It's keeping things tight and all the rain together along the Northeastern edge of the system. If the system comes in build like this, no doubt many places in Eastern Newfoundland would be seeing more than 50 mm of rain. Winds would be gusting beyond 100 km/h.. especially along the Northeast Coast. -The Canadian model is also showing some SNOW mixing in on the backside of this thing. Places in Central could certainly see some Wet Snow mixing in with the Rain on Wednesday afternoon as with gust in from the North. -The American model is showing... for lack of a better term... a sloppier system. Just not as nicely wrapped up and not as strong. As a result, it's showing one strong pulse of moisture to move way off shore and drop a lot of rain out there. It's also showing a weaker pulse with perhaps as much as 30-40 mm in the Eastern/Central region.
-We'll let these models battle it out over the next 24 hours and of course, I'll update you on the latest tomorrow here on the blog and of course on Here & Now. Ryan Your Comments
