GETTING BOMBED!

Hey Folks,

I hope those of you in Eastern Newfoundland are ready for a good old fashioned Fall Storm. It's going to be Rainy and Extremely Windy.

Our Low is actually very weak right now, but will intensify quickly over the next 12 hours. So quickly, that in the Meteorology world, tomorrow's system is called a "Weather Bomb." By definition a Weather Bomb is a Low pressure system which drops in pressure by 24 millibars or more in 24 hours. This Low is actually forecast to drop MORE THAN 40 mb in that time! So it will be getting stronger as the day moves along.

RAIN

Despite this thing being less than 24 hours out, there are still some uncertainties as to where exactly the heaviest rain will fall.

-The Canadian model is keeping the heaviest rainfall amounts, 40-50 mm, along the Burin and Bonavista Peninsulas, Terra Nova, Clarenville and Avalon Peninsula. While Gander down through the Coast of Bays and West to Grand Falls-Windsor and the Bay of Exploits regions could see 10-30 mm.

-The American GFS Model is taking one Heavy pulse of rainfall off the East Coast. While it brings another bulls-eye on the back side of the Low right up through the Eastern half of Central. So area like Gander, Terra Nova and Clarenville would all see 50 mm. Area East through the Avalon would all see 20-40 mm.

-The North American model is kind of somewhere in between. It has everyone from Grand Falls-Windsor to St. John's under the 40-60 mm range.

-I'm going to take a final look at the afternoon model runs and I'll have the very latest forecast tonight on HERE & NOW!

WIND WIND WIND

The one thing that is certain is the winds with this system are going to be Extremely Gusty. We have Wind Warnings in effect for...

St. John's
Avalon North & South
Clarenville & Vicinity
Bonavista Peninsula
Bonavista North
Terra Nova

These are all areas which are expected to see sustained Northerly winds of 70 to 80 km/h and gusts of 110 km/h on Wednesday and through Wednesday night.

SNOW

Indeed it still looks as though areas through Central Newfoundland could see some SNOW mixing in with the Rain into the afternoon. As those winds wrap in from the North, temperatures will drop to within a couple degrees of the freezing mark, making things cool enough for Wet Snow. I don't you'll see any accumulation... but never say never.

AGAIN THE VERY LATEST TONIGHT ON HERE & NOW!!!

Ryan
