3 Wind & Rain Makers

Hey Folks,

SYSTEM 1

Well, our system moving in for Thursday and into Friday isn't looking a potent as it once did. It's rolling into the Maritimes today as very strong fall storm dropping as much as 50-65 mm of rain through Eastern New Brunswick and Northeastern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.

However as this system pushes Northeast into our neck of the woods it will loose a good chunk of it's gas before its gets here. And the heaviest rainfall will end up well off the Coast.

That said, this system still has the potential to drop 20-30 mm along some parts of the Avalon. And as I've been mentioning, I think the winds will be quite gusty with this system. Winds will be wrapping in from the Northeast on the Avalon on Thursday with gusts to 70 km/h. Thursday night and into Friday morning gusts could top out at along the Northeast Coast and Southern Shore 80 km/h.

No doubt the bulk of this system will be felt in Southeastern Newfoundland. You folks in Western Newfoundland may end up with about 5 mm. In Labrador... this system won't even touch you.

SYSTEM 2- For Sunday?

There is another system brewing up in the U.S. South today which will no doubt move Northeast over the next 2 days. This system will actually develop along a long cold front which is slicing Southeastward through the Canadian Prairies and into the U.S. Anyway, this system will roll up through the Great Lakes on Friday and into the Maritimes for Saturday. And then....

Well, there are some different opinions on what it will do from there. The Canadian model moves right through the Straits with about a 10-20 mm shot of rain... but LOTS and LOTS of wind for Sunday. While the American model is splitting the system into two... taking the bulk of energy well to the South of Newfoundland and bringing just a few showers in for Sunday.

Where this system actually goes will have EVERYTHING to do with your Thanksgiving day forecast. So that's still a little up in the air at this point.

SYSTEM 3- Next Mid-Week

The next one I'm getting a little excited about is a system which the American, Canadian and European are all blowing up into a big coastal fall storm for mid-next week. All 3 models have the same system developing off the Coast of Cape Cod and then charging North for landfall in Newfoundland on Wednesday.

There could be some cold air coming in on the backside of this thing which could make things very interesting.... I'll leave it at that for now.

Ryan, is there any word on why the Holyrood Weather radar is down for 2 days running? That's unusually long.Us weather watchers miss it.
