The Old RDF...

Hey Folks,

The West Coast of Newfoundland certainly had a decent shot of rain yesterday. Port aux Basques ended up picking up 37 mm of rain while Burgeo topped out at 18 mm. Even the Burin Peninsula ended up around 15 mm.

That front which brought the rain yesterday and last night is just leaving the Northeast Avalon this afternoon and the focus switches to our next rain maker. You can already see it pushing through the Maritimes and into Western Labrador with Light Rain.

Sept29.JPG

-This front will be primarily a Labrador story where as much as 10-20 mm is on tap for the West and about 5-10 mm in the East.

-In Newfoundland I think 5 mm is about it. Tomorrow will end up being a lot like today... with perhaps a few afternoon sunny breaks in the West and maybe even Central.

-Thursday will remain showery in Eastern Newfoundland and Central as well... while the West Coast could see a Sunny break or two. In Labrador things will remain unsettled as well... as a Low pressure system sits and spins in Central Quebec spinning moisture North.

-Friday looks about the same for most of the Province... unsettled. Our Low will still likely be parked in Central Quebec keeping the Clouds and showers poking around for everyone. Eastern Newfoundland could see some steadier rains thanks to a developing trough Southeast of Newfoundland.

-Saturday should be our clear out day into hopefully a nice Sunday. Fingers crossed.

WIND!!!

I've had a few comments reminding me that the food fishery is on... and that the winds are obviously a vital part of the forecast this week.

The good news is, the winds shouldn't be too much of a factor this week. With this front coming into the region tonight we do a have a Gale Warning in Effect for the Cabot Strait.

Gale warning in effect.
Wind southerly 10 to 15 knots increasing to southeast 20 this afternoon and to 25 to 35 this evening with gusts to 45 in the Wreckhouse area. Wind diminishing to southwest 15 late overnight.

That front will push East and by tomorrow morning could bring winds of 40 km/h gusting to 60 to the Bay of Exploits and up along the East side of the Northern Peninsula and then up along the Southeast Coast of Labrador.

I've actually made up a brand new map for showing the forecast wind speeds over the next 5 days!!!
So make sure you tune into Here & Now tonight to check that out.

Ryan
