One Hit & One Miss?

Hey Folks,

What a chill across the Province today... the warmest temperature in the Province as of 12:30 is Port aux Basques at 10.9 degrees. No doubt the warmest temperatures will be found along the South Coast today where you folks are most sheltered from that Northerly wind coming in from the North Atlantic.

The Chilly temperatures will continue tonight across the Province and as a result there's a risk of Frost for almost everyone. However EC has issue Frost Warnings for most of Eastern Newfoundland.

FROST WARNING
Avalon Peninsula North.
Avalon Peninsula South.
Clarenville and vicinity
Bonavista Peninsula
Terra Nova.
Grand Falls-Windsor and vicinity
Buchans and the interior.
Burin Peninsula
Ramea - Connaigre.

By the way, the cut off date for Frost Warnings in Newfoundland is September 30th. Meaning after that there won't be any warnings issued for Frost in October.

WARMING UP AND CLEARING OUT

Tomorrow looks like a fantastic day across the Province. Temperatures are on the rise and Sunshine is in the forecast for Everyone.

2 SYSTEMS

Alright time for an update on the two systems I talked about yesterday here on the blog and last night on Here & Now.

SYSTEM 1-FRIDAY
This system looks indeed as though it's destined for us on Friday. As of this morning, The American GFS, The Canadian, European and the North American models are bringing the system in as a direct hit on Central Eastern Newfoundland on Friday. Here are just a couple of the ideas.

GFS

GEM

Both models are pretty close with the forecast track and with the intensity of this system as well. It's looking like this system is going to be a decent 30-50 mm rain maker. Not unlike the storm which came through here on Monday. Winds will be gusting to 80 or 90 km/h an hour. Now with about 48 hours to go, it still remains to be seen where the actual bulls eye will be for the heaviest rainfall amounts.

Right now, I would say anywhere from Burgeo to Grand Falls-Windsor to St. John's to Cape Race could be within that 50 mm range.

We'll try to narrow that window down tomorrow here on the blog and of course on Here & Now.

SYSTEM 2-SUNDAY
Sept16-3.bmp
It appears our Sunday system may track JUST to the East of Newfoundland on Sunday. Again both the American and Canadian models are in agreement with that. However the European still likes a direct juicy hit on Sunday. So it's not written in stone... but other than a few showers for the Avalon on Sunday morning... I'm leaving it out of the forecast for now.
