Big Ol Fall Storm

Wow. How about that Rain and Wind on the Avalon overnight and early this morning? What a wake up.

Last week I talked a lot about this system which was a good sized system when it rolled into Newfoundland overnight last night. Some of the Heaviest rains have fallen through Southwestern Newfoundland and up the West Coast where 50 mm has certainly fallen in some places.

This system is pumping lots of warm air up on the East side... as temperatures hit 18 degrees in St. John's. And on the backside of the system, it's tapping into lots of Cool air to the North and drawing it South. As a result it's Snowing in Nain this afternoon and there are flurries falling down into Western Labrador as well with temperatures of just 2 to 3 degrees.

As of 1pm... the rainfall warnings have been dropped in Southwestern Newfoundland... however Rainfall Warnings remain in effect for the Coast of Labrador...
Batteau to L'Anse-au-Clair
Postville to Cartwright

These areas could top out at 50 mm before this system is done with you on Tuesday afternoon.

I'll be making the call to Environment Canada this afternoon to get some rainfall totals for Newfoundland... and I'll share those with you tonight on Here & Now.

TUESDAY
Sept14-2.JPG
-This system will slowly move to the North over the next 24 hours and will be over the Labrador Sea by Tuesday afternoon.
-Winds through Labrador will be right in from the North tomorrow. As a result, it looks like you folks in Western Labrador will be waking up to the wet flurries, however things should clear into the afternoon. Temperatures highs will top out at just 7 or 8 degrees.
-In Newfoundland some lingering showers on the West Coast will keep things unsettled. Central will be clearing and Eastern sections will have a decent day... with evening showers developing thanks to that system you see working up through Nova Scotia above.

LATE WEEK
Things will be clearing out slowly but surely through Wednesday and at this point Thursday and Friday are looking pretty nice across the Province. We'll have to see how things play out.

See you tonight!

Ryan
