SUNDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE
Hey Folks, He's on the Doorstep. Bill as a Category One Storm. Alright, the latest forecast track is still bringing Bill in as a Strong Tropical Storm around midnight up through Fortune Bay just West of the Burin Peninsula and then Northeast and up through Trinity Bay. I think the forecast will hold because it's been consistent over the past 24 hours or so. So as I've been discussing for the past few days... Southeast of that track we're expecting heavy rain and extremely high winds with gusts to 100 or 120 km/h and The Avalon, Burin and Bonavista Peninsulas as well as the Clarenville area and those regions are all under Wind Warnings and Tropical Storm Warnings with 30-40 mm of rain possible. I think the Clarenville and Bonavista areas could top out around 40-60 mm. That area is right along the track and could actually see as much as 100 mm in some localized areas. West of the track are the areas that are Under a Tropical Storm Watch and Rainfall Warnings. I think these could be upgraded to Warnings this evening or tonight. These are areas where we could see the heaviest rainfall amounts of 60-80 mm through Southern and Central Newfoundland. However again, Environment Canada hasn't ruled out the possibility of seeing over 100 mm in some localized regions here as well. The South Coast of Newfoundland between Port aux Basques and Fortune Bay will be taking the bulk of the early bands of rain coming in this afternoon and through the evening hours. And those bands could drop as much as 30-40 mm per hour. Environment Canada has you folks in the 70-90 mm range... with 140 mm a possible in some localized regions. However with Bill weakening... I think the chances of that are decreasing all the time. Another area of concern that I talked about yesterday is along the Southeast coast of Newfoundland in terms of Storm Surge coming in. Tonight around 11pm some of the highest tides of the year will occurring in Placentia Bay... is just so happens that Bill will be moving in within 3 hours of that time and so a Storm Surge Watch is in effect... and so we're watching that closely as well. If Bill slows down... a Storm Surge Warning could be issued. I'm headed out to do Live Hits on CBC Newsworld this afternoon and so I won't be able to update the blog... so the best way to stay informed is by... 1) Watching me on CBC Newsworld this afternoon and into this evening... I'll also be on CBC News Sunday night. They'll be updating things throughout the evening. I'll be on CBC Newsworld Morning first thing tomorrow morning around 6:30 NT LIVE from somewhere around St. John's so make sure you tune in for the very latest then as well. BE SAFE AND ENJOY THE STORM!!! Ryan Your Comments

Oh boy, this is one valuable service: thank you for going above and beyond the call of duty.
Thanks Ryan for the update and YOU be safe out there too buddy. I'd stay away from the cliffs of Cape Spear 6:30 tomorrow morning!
Here's to hoping my shingles hold!
Sincerely,
waveoverwave, Conception Bay South
PS We've been lived in CBS for 12 years now and I have never seen the volume and intensity of lightening ANYWHERE, Central Newfoundland included, of what I will call, in my layman's term "storm-generated lightning" or it's meteorlogical equivalent (although, I will admit, Grand Falls- Windsor comes a close second).
Be safe
