Hey Folks,

***STAY TUNED TO CBC RADIO ONE THIS SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND SUNDAY AFTERNOON/EVENING AS I'LL BE HERE GIVING UPDATES ON THE VERY LATEST WITH BILL. I WILL ALSO BE UPDATING THE BLOG ON BOTH SATURDAY AND SUNDAY IN THE AFTERNOON. SO CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES.

Here' the latest on Hurricane Bill as of Friday afternoon.

Bill is now a Category 2... but just barely.... at sustained winds of 176 km/h. At 178 km/h he would be a Cat 3 again.

Over the past 24 hours the models are starting to have a bit more agreement on just where big might track. Here's the latest spagetti model run courtesy of https://my.sfwmd.gov

As you can see a lot of the forecast models are jumping on a track which brings bill onto the Island on Sunday night between Burgeo and Placentia Bay.

The latest National Hurricane Centre track is agreeing with that and bringing the storm in as a Tropical Storm with sustained winds over 100 km/h and gusts to 140 km/h.

With all that in mind here's a look at what could be headed our way Sunday night into Monday
Sun-Mon-Aug21.JPG
-Again, I think Western and Central sections of the Island have the biggest risk of seeing Heavy rainfall from Bill. Although I think 40-80 mm is a good number. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if some localized areas are in for over 100 mm.
-Central and Eastern sections have the biggest risk of seeing Hurricane force winds with sustained winds of 100-120 km/h and gusts approaching 130-140 km/h.
-The South Coast of Newfoundland is certainly at risk to see Storm Surge from Hurricane Bill. This afternoon during a conference call, officials with Environment Canada mentioned specifically the Placentia Bay area as a risk to see a very high storm surge. However, they also mentioned it's very early in the game to issue warnings of any kind. We'll be watching that situation closely over the next 24-36 hours.

I'll be in touch.

Your Comments

Ryan being a past fan of yours when you were in Peterborough, I am sure you love being in Newfoundland with their weather patterns. They are much more interesting compared to us. I wish you were still here doing our weather especially yesterday. However hurricane Bill will be a force to reckon with. Hope everyone on the island remains safe.

Maybe one day you will be back.
Take care

Thanks Ryan!

Your blog is my primary source of clear,
understandable information concerning Bill.

Great blog Ryan. Other stations
should take note of what CBC NL is
doing.
