Danny's Numbers
Hey Folks, I hope you enjoyed your weekend. It was quite a storm yesterday for the Island with lots of wind and rain as Post Tropical Storm Danny pushed though. But it felt FAR from Tropical didn't it. It really felt like a Fall Storm. The rain was cool and so was the wind. Certainly a taste of what's to come over the next 3 months. I'm pretty impressed by the numbers from Danny. He dropped a good shot of rain for most of Southern and Central Newfoundland. If you look back to my blog on Saturday, the rainfall totals ended up coming in pretty close to expected. Unofficial precipitation totals for the event: Unofficial peak wind gusts: THE NEXT FEW DAYS As the remnants of Danny push out to the Northeast... we're going to see an area of High pressure back it's way from the Southwest. By Tuesday afternoon we'll really start to see the clear out in Newfoundland. And it looks like that good hold for a few days. In Labrador, that ridge of High pressure won't quite make it's way in. You're going to be seeing a couple of Lows passing to the North, keeping things unsettled with a chance of light showers here and there. BUT NO SNOW!!! In fact, temperatures will be pushing into the teens... and maybe even the low 20's by mid-week. Tomorrow on the blog, I'm going to take a look back at the month of August with Rainfall totals from across the Province. Ryan Your Comments

Hello there my name is Noah and I live in Campbellllton and my rain gauge collected 21mm of rain yesterday.
".....But it (Danny) felt FAR from Tropical didn't it. It really felt like a Fall Storm. The rain was cool and so was the wind....."
The explanation that I heard was that a system from central NA collided with the tropical air mass and fragmented it. Early in the PM the rain WAS as cold as it would be in an October storm. However by the evening the temperature has risen, and the wind direction had raised slightly.
More likely it was a case of the mixing of the two systems that was not complete and the tropical air trailed behind the colder system.
Still the day was a write-off for outdoor activity but we were lucky(?). The mixing of two systems lessened the effect of the more severe one but that is not always the case - could have been messier. I think (?) the windstorm of October 1992(?) was a mixing of two systems - the rain felt like hail on one's face the wind was so severe. It was like a mild winter blizzard without the cold or frozen ground - a lot of trees came down.
