Cooler Air... Flurries... & Danny?
Hey Folks, Off the top here, I'll mention that there is a chance for some patchy frost in Newfoundland tonight. With High pressure overhead, and winds light, some low lying areas could drop to 2 or 3 degrees tonight. If you're in a low lying area, cover those plants up. Ok, over the next few days I'll be tracking a Cool shot of air which will be coming in from the North. It's a tag team effort which will bring it in. First, the Low pressure system which is going to be rolling in from the West into Western Labrador tonight and Newfoundland tomorrow is tracking far enough North that's going to be able to tap into some of that nice cool air in the far North and draw it South. Helping it a great deal will the area of High pressure sinking from the Arctic to the Southeast, right in behind the Low. The two will bring North or Northwest winds in as we march through the week. Thursday- Western Labrador will feel the chill with a high of maybe 6 or 7 degrees for a HIGH! (More On Western Lab. in a second) Friday-Eastern Labrador will have trouble hitting double digits. Western Newfoundland will see 13 or 14 degrees and even in Central 14 or 15 degrees might be it. I think the coolest air for Eastern Newfoundland will wait until Saturday and Sunday with 14 or 15 degrees. FLURRIES IN WESTERN LABRADOR IN AUG? Well, it's happened before. In fact, your 30 year average for Snow in August from 1971-2000 in Labrador City is 0.1 cm. As I mentioned last night the forecast models including the Canadian (above) are still showing the chance of some wet flurries early Thursday morning. It would be quite a sight. If you do see flurries, take some pics and email me at ryan.snoddon@cbc.ca I'd love to show it on the air. DANNY? Ok, I know it's early to be bringing this up. Bill just left and everyone is thinking... that's enough already!!! However, I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't let you know that I'm keeping my eye on a another cluster of Thunderstorms bubbling up in the Caribbean. Some forecast models are jumping on this thing and blowing up into a nice Tropical Storm which could hit the Eastern Seaboard sometime late this week or early weekend. However a good number of them are keeping it weak and off the Coast. Here in Newfoundland, I'm not too concerned about anything big at this point. However, I will say that the remnants of this thing, could bring some decent rains into the Province on Sunday or Monday. Either way, I'm keeping a close eye on it and I'll keep you posted. See you tonight! Ryan Your Comments
