MORE TROPICAL STORM WATCHES!!!

Environment Canada has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for the entire Island of Newfoundland with the exception of the Northern Peninsula. A Tropical Storm Watch means that we'll be experiencing Tropical Storm conditions within the next 24-36 hours.

Now the next 6 to 8 hours is critical for Bill and our forecast. Environment Canada says if Bill maintains his strength through this evening, he may still reach Southern Newfoundland as a Hurricane. As a result, Hurricane Watches may still be issued for Southeastern portions of Newfoundland.

Here a Link to the latest WATCHES AND WARNINGS.

Environment Canada's Canadian Hurricane Centre... has also just released it's latest forecast track for Bill.

As you can see they're showing Bill as a Tropical Storm over the Burin Peninsula on Monday morning at 3:30 am with winds of 100 km/h.

Before I head home tonight I wanted to leave you with a few more things to chew on....

We're starting to get a better look at just what tomorrow night might look like. I've taken a few snaps from the GEM model to show you. It looks like you folks in Southwestern Newfoundland are going to start seeing the early bands of rain from Bill coming in mid-late afternoon on Sunday. This snap shows some very decent looking bands already pushing into the Corner Brook area by Sunday at 6pm.

By the time we get to 10 or 11pm I think everyone will be into the Rain. By this time the Southcoast of Newfoundland will start to really take a pounding from the Rain as well as the wind. Those Southerly winds gusts will be pushing 100-120 km/h.

EARLY RAINFALL ESTIMATES
Environment Canada says parts of Newfoundland could be in store for 75-100 mm of rain from this system. Now. these can't be taken too too seriously because it's still early in the game however, I thought I would share with you what just a few of the models are showing in terms of possible rainfall amounts.

Ryan-
Great to have not only a local view (as opposed to Halifax or national) of this storm's approach, but also such detailed, understandable descriptions of the storm's track. Thanks for your efforts!

Noon to 1:00 PM Sunday, August 23: We've just had some thunder and lightning, and now we have some rain here in Port aux Basques. Not much wind, but it's very humid and about 23C.

Wow, we've never had such comprehensive weather reporting before. I've been checking your blog all weekend. Thanks Ryan

11 pm Portugal Cove harbour....severe thunder and lightening at the same time plus heavy bands of rain coming 5 minutes apart. Can't see the ocean. The humidity is oppressive. I fear we will lose our power if the lightening keeps up. My dogs are terrified, and I likely won't sleep tonight.
