Warm in Newfoundland... Snow in Labrador

Hey Folks,

I hope you had a great weekend...
We ended up with a decent shot of rain over the weekend for the Province. The 10-20 mm forecast was pretty much on par for everyone. As I mentioned on Friday here on the blog, Eastern Labrador had a better chance of seeing a little more and did in the end.

Friday-Saturday-Sunday Totals
St. John's- 19 mm
Gander- 16 mm
Deer Lake- 10 mm
Stephenville- 25 mm
Port Aux Basques- 10 mm
Cartwright- 15 mm
Goose Bay- 30 mm
Labrador City- 20 mm

So, what's on the menu this week?

TODAY

-Well, we have a nice little compacted Low which is making it's way in from the West. As a result, Western Newfoundland as well as Southern Labrador are going to get into the shower action late this afternoon and into tonight.
-Remember a Low spins counter clockwise and so ahead of the Low it's nice and warm in Newfoundland (temps over 20 in some spots) and Eastern Labrador... however Western Labrador is seeing the wrap around winds from the North and temperatures of 5 degrees this afternoon!!! A huge temperature contrast.
-Now regularly, this Low would cross the Province and head Northeast. However, see that area High pressure sitting up to our Northeast? Well, that's going to be acting as a bit of block. So instead of heading Northeast and out to sea, the Low is going head North into Labrador.

TUESDAY
June1-2.JPG
-Looks like another fantastic day in Central and Eastern Newfoundland. With that Low heading North... winds will remain in from the Southwest and so 20 degrees is in the cards again.
-Western Newfoundland will see some showers in the morning... however clearing into the afternoon as the Low heads North.
-Eastern Labrador will be seeing 10-15 mm overnight tonight with some showers lingering throughout the day tomorrow. A pretty cloudy day.
-Western Labrador, I don't think the model above is lying. You can see that Blue precip... that's Snow. I think 2-5 cm could accumulate throughout the day.

WEDNESDAY AND BEYOND
-Our Low in Labrador will slowly loose it's strength and slide to the Northeast easing it's effects by late week.
-Staying warm in Newfoundland with a general West Southwesterly flow
-I'm watching a system which is currently forecast to track SOUTHEAST of the Island late Thursday-Friday. However a slight change could bring it in with some showers.
-The start of the weekend doesn't look too bad, with a system approaching from the Southwest, perhaps by Sunday.
