Mother's Day Weekend Weather

Alright Folks,

I'll be straight up with you here... the weekend weather is looking... less than great. It's going to be pretty cloudy and gloomy with some showers in Newfoundland and some wet snow in Labrador. That said, it's only early May. We're saving all the really nice weather up for June, July, August and September! I hope.

Our system which is parked over Newfoundland as we speak... will slowly work Northeast over the next 12-18 hours. More Rain showers through the overnight in Newfoundland and perhaps some wet flurries working into Southeastern Labrador.

SATURDAY

-Some early morning showers in the East will clear out with a mostly cloudy mid-day and afternoon. I think the sun will be poking through the clouds off and on. High 10
-Chance of a light shower or drizzle in the Morning... and mostly cloudy afternoon with some sunny breaks. High 10
-The West Coast and Northern Peninsula will see Winds wrapping in from the Northwest and that will keep temperatures hovering around 2 or 3 degrees throughout the day. The Northwesterly winds will also pick up some moisture from the Gulf and dump it on shore in form of some light showers or drizzle.
-Northeasterly winds coming in from the Labrador Sea will throw some wet flurries into Eastern Labrador and along the Coast on Saturday. Temperatures will be cool from the winds as well. High 2
-A trough hanging out over Western Labrador will drop some wet flurries mixing in with some showers in the afternoon. High 7.

MOTHER'S DAY SUNDAY
The reason this Friday entry of the blog is up so late is because of Sunday. It's been nothing but a big pain in the neck to try and predict. The forecast models have been flip flopping around all week on various solutions. Now here we are on Friday afternoon and finally there has been a bit of agreement between the American GFS and the Canadian GEM.
The Issue at hand as been yet another system working in from the South... and when it will arrive on the Island. The Canadian model is still at little earlier with the system and also brings it a little further North than the American model. You can see below by 8am Sunday... the South Coast is already seeing some showers. There's a chance of scattered showers ahead of this system from Coast to Coast on Sunday according to the Canadian model. However, both models agree the bulk of the precip will still to the Southwest at this time, however it will quickly roll in late afternoon and spread across the Island in the Evening and Overnight.

SO with all that said... here's your Sunday forecast.

Eastern Newfoundland: Mostly Cloudy with Sunny breaks in the morning... chance of scattered afternoon showers... with evening and overnight Rain. High 5
Central Newfoundland: Cloudy.... chance of scattered showers late morning and afternoon. Rain in the evening and overnight. High 7
Western Newfoundland: Cloudy with showers perhaps even mixing in with a few flurries in the afternoon. Rain in the evening and overnight. High 3.
Eastern Labrador: Mix of Sun and Cloud with a 60% chance of wet flurries throughout the day. High -1
Western Labrador: Mix of Cloud and Sun... with a 70% chance of wet flurries throughout the day. High 0

Have a great weekend!

Your Comments

Gee, Ryan, we have about 15 cms of snow on the ground here in King's Point, Green Bay...a stormy Mother's Day.
To top it all off, around 8:30 p.m. an enormous rip of thunder crashed from the East and headed West. It was, without a doubt. the longest continuous peal of thunder I have ever heard and never in blizzardlike conditions. I had time to take the phone outdoors and have the other party listen for a while!! Unusual for here.
