April & May By The Numbers
Hey Folks, The Weekend is looking wet for everyone. From Nain to Cape Race and Labrador City to St. John's both days are looking cloudy and showery. For the most part 10-20 mm is forecast to fall before Monday morning... perhaps a little more in Eastern Labrador. Neither day looks like a soaker... however showery or periods light rain will be kicking around. That's of course bad news if you we're planning on a weekend outside or at the cabin. However, we actually need the rain... and the numbers prove it. I've been doing some digging and found that April and May have been pretty dry for everyone. APRIL So April as a whole was pretty dry for Newfoundland, especially in the East. While Labrador was pretty close to Normal in the West and well above average in the East. MAY So again May has been pretty dry in Eastern Newfoundland, however Central and West aren't too far off the mark. Labrador has been very dry in May. So, if you add everything up, only Happy Valley-Goose Bay is about average over the past 2 months. Western Labrador, Western Newfoundland and Central Newfoundland are all sitting about 20 mm short of normal right now. So this weekend's rain should actually help green things up a bit especially on the Avalon where the past two months have seen just 64% of the average rainfall. Ryan Your Comments
