Thursday's Weak System... Then COOOLLLD!

Hey folks,

Well, our system approaching from the West Southwest is already rolling into Western Labrador this afternoon... with some light snow. That snow will spread East overnight into Eastern Labrador and Western Newfoundland. By tomorrow morning Central and Eastern Newfoundland will be into the action too.

In the afternoon... the Island will see temperatures bump up over the freezing mark and we'll see showers in the afternoon for pretty much everyone south of Daniel's Harbour and the Bay of Exploits. Winds in the afternoon will probably be the bigger story with gusts to 80 km/h across the Island and 50 or 60 km/h in Eastern Labrador.

Totals will look like this...
Western Labrador 5-10 cm of Snow
Eastern Labrador/Northern Peninsula 2-5 cm
Western Newfoundland 2-5 cm of Snow, 2 mm of Rain
Central & East Newfoundland 2 cm of Snow, 2 mm of Rain

So a fairly weak system overall.

COLD SHOT COMING
A bigger story than even this messy system coming in... is the HUGE shot of Cold air wrapping in behind this system. It's a Polar airmass which will be creeping into Western Labrador as early as tonight with temps falling all the way to -24. Tomorrow in Labrador City you'll only get to about -20. In Eastern Labrador afternoon temps on Thursday will fall from -2 to -15. In Western Newfoundland, temps on Thursday will rise to 2 or 3 degrees before falling to -10 in the afternoon. The cold air will finally filter into Central and Eastern Newfoundland on Friday.

On Friday, temps in Newfoundland look like they'll be about coldest we've seen in more than a month.... Feb 10th in fact was our last really cold day. We've done well. In Labrador, temps of -16 in the East... to -20 in the West... however, those are temps not unlike you had just last week!
Either way, get ready to bundle up!

The good news is the road to recovery... temperature wise anyway... will begin through out the weekend.
So what's happening this weekend weather wise?

I think that's a good one for tomorrow here on the blog.

See ya tonight.
Ryan

Your Comments

Just watched your 5 day forecast. I am working in Voisey's Bay and your forecast for Nain looks like it will be day 3 tomorrow without anyone getting home. Just an FYI.

Will you be updating the residents of the Province on the artic Ice location on a nightly basis or is that outside your area?
Thanks,
