2 STORMS THIS WEEK

Hey Folks,

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend... you folks living in Western and Northwestern Newfoundland must have some sore backs this morning from all of that shoveling. Unfortunately, there is a lack of weather stations across this Province which measure Snowfall. So, I had to go by was Stephenville which measured about 23 cm's over the weekend and Deer Lake which measured 31 cm. I had no idea how much the Baie Verte Peninsula picked up until Kim & Derek Hiscock sent this photo in last night.

Baie Verte.JPG

WOW. They say about 30 cm's fell at their place... and that it took them about 3 hours to Snowblow the driveway. And apparently there are 2 cars in that driveway. I'm not sure where the other one is hiding!

Moving forward... we have an area of High pressure which will hang around just to the West of the Province over the next 2 days... this will keep the sunshine poking through the clouds for a good portion of you today and the Sunshine should pretty much dominate across the Province on Tuesday. Whoo Sunshine!

WEDNESDAY
I'm tracking a system which is just beginning to develop along the Coast of the U.S. Southeast. This system will tracking Northeast and then swing back West again on Tuesday night. This looks like it's going to be a pretty decent hit for Eastern Newfoundland... maybe even Central depending on how far West the system cuts.

As of now, it looks like Wind will be the biggest factor with this storm. Winds will be sustained over 50 km/h and gusts could certainly reach 100 km/h + especially along the Coasts. It looks like the Heaviest Snowfall will track off shore... however the Avalon could still see as much as 20 cm based on the current forecast track. Amounts would decrease the further West you go. The next 24 hours will tell a much better story of how this system will play out and of course I'll have more details tonight on Here & Now.

FRIDAY-SATURDAY
The models have also been pretty consistent over the past few days, tracking another system into the Province for the Friday-Saturday period. It's pretty early to speculate on who will get what... but the latest runs have been tracking the centre of the Low up through Eastern Labrador. That would bring warm air and a Snow/Rain mix for all of Newfoundland. However, again that's 5 days out and a lot can change. I'll continue to track it and keep you up to date.

Ryan

P.S. Thanks again everyone for the really nice comments you've been sending in. I really appreciate it. Again, I'm really happy I'm going to be able to stick around.

Hi, Ryan. I'm delighted to hear you're staying with CBC and will remain our weather forecaster. I watch CBC every night and enjoy your weather forecasting -- good weather or bad! I'm delighted for Krista too -- she'll do very well reporting for CBC and on Living NL. Congratulations to both of you!

I am so glad that you will be staying with us. In the last few years I had slowly drifted over to NTV for my news but your youthful energy has brought me back to the CBC fold. Woohoo!!

Hi Ryan,

I'm really pleased to hear that you'll be staying with us for the forseeable future. You do an excellent job of forecasting the weather and presenting it each night. You're educating the population about the technical aspects of weather too, with great graphics, etc. Your blog is very informative also.

Keep up the good work!

Hi Ryan:
I have to fly to Deer Lake on business tomorrow (Wed) and was wondering when this storm is going to start so that I can book my flight accordingly?

Hi Ryan

Great news on continuing your position with the CBC. You are doing wonderful work, especially how accessible you have made understanding our crazy weather (and pronouncing the community names)! Love all the technology you have brought to your forecasting! Cheers!

Great news!
Awesome! I am so glad that you are staying with the CBC news Ryan!
As i stated in a previous comment you are the sole reason for my switching to the CBC newscast from the other one. You certainly must like it in this lovely province of ours! So glad to hear it, and as always I really enjoy your enthusiasm! keep up the great work!

Ryan, glad you'll be sticking around! You give a great forecast.

Do you have any idea when Wednesday's storm is expected to start/end? I have an exam tomorrow and a snow day wouldn't go astray...

Thanks

Hi Ryan,

I am really thrilled that you will be staying on as part of the CBC team. I never miss your weather reports because of the life you bring to them. I truly enjoy watching and will remain a true fan of the CBC News. A very smart decision CBC!!

I find your weather broadcasts very informative, graphics are awesome, and the energy you bring to the show is fantastic! Great job!
P.S. Makes NTV weather look so outdated lol That being said, I'm sure they are a good news program as well.

Glad you're staying Ryan. I'm sure you've bumped up the ratings for the CBC evening news. Not only are you cute but you know the weather !! What a treat :)

Hi Ryan, I am so glad that you will be staying on; you do a great job with the forecast! It is very informative and very interesting; I look forward to watching you give out the forecast every day. I live in northern NL (Hawkes Bay) and sometimes feel left out when the forecast is given out by some forecasters. It is great to know that the northern peninsula isn't forgotten. Thanks! Have a great day!

Hi Ryan,
I really enjoy the detailed analysis of the weather on your blog. I don't watch the CBC news (or any other) so this is terrific for me!

Glad to hear you are sticking around for a bit longer....I think you might be the new "Rex Goudie"

I just moved back to NL from Toronto last week! I'm so glad to be back home even with all the extra snow.

I really like this blog and just subscribed to it. Just like everyone else I'm glad your staying!
