Watching the Weekend

Hey folks,

The storminess continues for you folks along the West Coast of Newfoundland, up along the Northern Peninsula and through Southeastern Labrador tonight. This current Low pressure centre will continue to track up through the Straits tonight... and the Snowfall will slowly start to subside through the overnight. Again 15-20 cm's will be on the ground by Friday morning for you folks under the Warnings. You folks along the West Coast from Daniel's Harbour to Corner Brook to Port Aux Basques will see the Winds really starting to pick up late this afternoon... with gusts to 100 km/h throughout this evening. Those winds will slowly subside from Midnight through Friday morning.

THE WEEKEND
Alright, I'm watching 2 systems for this weekend. The first one, SHOULD barely influence the Province at all. It's a system that most of the models have been tracking up JUST East of the Island on Friday night/Saturday.

HOWEVER, on the last few runs the American GFS model has been showing the Avalon getting clipped with a 5-10 maybe 15 cm shot of Snow. I'm watching this closely... but right now I'm still forecasting a light dusting of 2-5 cm for the Avalon & St. John's Friday night/Saturday morning.

SUNDAY
Another system which is forecast to track in Sunday afternoon... is still anyone's guess in terms of where it will go. Out of the three tracks below it looks like the Furthest West is the least likely... with Central about 40% and the Eastern track about 60% right now.

I'll keep you up to date.

Ryan,
You do a great job presenting the weather. I love how you get down into the technical details rather than just re-reading the forecast like others in the business. Keep it up! I'm sure your work has done its share with the CBC's recent rating increase.

PS: My wife says to keep wearing those white shirts too! You look much better on camera with them on. Dark shirt, dark suit, dark hair, dark blue ocean background and a bleak, depressing forecasts don't mix well... That white shirt is a pleasant contrast!

Ryan,

I really enjoy reading your blogs and I think that you're doing a great job! Keep up the good work! I also believe that the enthusiasm and detail you bring to forecasting the weather has contributed to the increase in ratings that was just recently announced by CBC.

My husband and I really enjoy Ryan's weather reporting. For those of us who enjoy winter weather, it is refreshing to hear snow reported in a tone that is not always negative.

Great forecast. It beats NTV's by a longshot. All they do is read it out (and they can barely do that) without any sort of detail at all. CBC is a much more professional station and delivers the news and weather much better to Newfoundlanders.
