Happy New Year!

Hey folks,

I hope you all had a safe and Happy New Year... thank-you very much for the birthday wishes. It seems my birthday wish has come true... more storminess! (what do expect from a weatherman?)

We're still dealing with the Low pressure system that pounded the Maritimes with Wind and Snow... take a look at some of the snowfall totals and wind gusts from yesterday...
Charlottetown airport-49 cm
Yarmouth airport-40 cm
Cheticamp-36 cm
Briar Island, Nova Scotia- 100 km/h
North point, PEI - 93 km/h
Yarmouth airport- 80 km/h

The bulk of the Precip with this storm really passed over the Island quickly... as a result we really didn't see a whole lot of snowfall. Generally, looks like about 5-10 cm's for most in Central and Western parts of the Island with a Mix of everything in the East.
As I mentioned, that system is still sitting just North of the Island and is now giving you folks in Labrador a pretty good taste of Winter today and through tonight as well.

Batteau to L'Anse-au-Clair - Mary's Harbour and south.

This Low pressure system would Normally slowly exit to the North... however there's a massive area of High pressure sitting over Greenland right now. That's acting as a block, and as a result this system will actually tracking Northwest... and then SOUTH again through Labrador... before it finally runs out of energy on Sunday in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Making things even more interesting... is yet ANOTHER system on the way for the Eastern half of Newfoundland. This one is just moving through the Great Lakes as we speak. It will hit the U.S. seaboard tonight and then tracking Northeast.
