Happy New Year!
Hey folks, I hope you all had a safe and Happy New Year... thank-you very much for the birthday wishes. It seems my birthday wish has come true... more storminess! (what do expect from a weatherman?) We're still dealing with the Low pressure system that pounded the Maritimes with Wind and Snow... take a look at some of the snowfall totals and wind gusts from yesterday... The bulk of the Precip with this storm really passed over the Island quickly... as a result we really didn't see a whole lot of snowfall. Generally, looks like about 5-10 cm's for most in Central and Western parts of the Island with a Mix of everything in the East. Blizzard Warning in effect- 15-25 cm's by Saturday morning. Winds gusting to 90 km/h today and this evening. This Low pressure system would Normally slowly exit to the North... however there's a massive area of High pressure sitting over Greenland right now. That's acting as a block, and as a result this system will actually tracking Northwest... and then SOUTH again through Labrador... before it finally runs out of energy on Sunday in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Making things even more interesting... is yet ANOTHER system on the way for the Eastern half of Newfoundland. This one is just moving through the Great Lakes as we speak. It will hit the U.S. seaboard tonight and then tracking Northeast. Winter storm watch in effect.- 10 cm's of Snow beginning Saturday afternoon. Snowfall warning in effect- 15 cm's of Snow on Saturday The Snow ahead of this low will likely reach southern Newfoundland around Noon on Saturday. Looks like St. John's and The Avalon will see about 10 centimetres of snow. Around supper time that snow may actually change over to some light rain or drizzle. The South Coast and the Burin could see as much as 15 cm's of snow by Saturday evening.... with Central regions picking up about 5 to 10 centimetres of snow by midnight. Full details tonight on Here & Now. Ryan Your Comments
