New Years Storm Update

Hey Folks,

Just a quick update on the system rolling in tomorrow. Things is a big time storm. The good news is, Nova Scotia, Cape Breton and PEI are going to be taking the brunt of this thing tonight.
Tomorrow it crawls onto the Island... with Snow for most. Yes Most. Turns out the GFS was correct in it's forecast track. The centre of this storm will track right up through Central Newfoundland... allowing warm air to move in from the Southeast... and turn the Snow to Ice Pellets and or Freezing Rain and then Rain for folks living in Eastern Newfoundland. Here's a quick rundown....

St. John's & the Avalon, The Burin Peninsula, The Bonavista Peninsula & Terra Nova Park
Snow will begin tomorrow morning... and you folks could pick up 5-10 cm's Snow... however temperatures will begin to rise and you begin to see a switch over to Ice Pellets and Freezing Rain. Temperatures will finally rise above the freezing mark and you'll see a change over to rain in the afternoon. However that rain may only last a few hours... before things change back over to snow late evening and into the overnight.
For the rest of Newfoundland...
This thing is all snow... we have Snowfall Warnings in place for...
St. George's
Corner Brook and vicinity.
Channel-Port aux Basques - Burgeo.
Ramea - Connaigre.
Buchans and the interior
Deer Lake - Humber Valley
Grand Falls-Windsor and vicinity.
Bay of Exploits.

Mid-day tomorrow will be the worst... with Snow, heavy at times and winds gusting which will cause some white-out conditions. Most areas will see 15-20 cm's of Snow by Thursday night. The Southwest corner of the Island from Burgeo to Stephenville could see as much 30 cm's with again... white-out conditions mid-day tomorrow.

Thursday night & Friday across the Island... the winds will be howling in from the West. Sea effect snowsqualls will setup along the West Coast and Blowing snow will be a factor for everyone. Thursday night & Friday for Eastern Labrador... this thing is just getting started. Again 15-20 cm's is possible for you folks by Friday night with Blowing Snow a big factor throughout the day on Friday... especially along the Coast.

In Labrador City and areas North of Groswater Bay... this system is just for Friday and even into Friday night. Labrador City, you folks could pick up 10-15 cm's by Saturday morning.
