The Dreaded Question...

Hey Folks,

We still have Freezing Rain Warning in Effect for Happy Valley-Goose Bay and from Nain to Hopedale. For you folks in HVGB the change over to rain should occur late this afternoon... while Nain and Hopedale you could see the Freezing rain until Friday morning.
The Rainfall Warning is still in effect for Port aux Basques & Burgeo. Looks like Port aux Basques took the biggest hit last night and this morning. This afternoon the persistant rain band has shifted East and it's Harbour Le Cou and Burgeo which is seeing the steadiest rain now and into this evening.

And we have yet another system coming in for Friday and into the weekend! So yes, the wet and stormy pattern continues... in fact for the 3rd straight weekend we have rain in the forecast for almost everyone on the Island and Snow for everyone in Labrador... but less than 5 cm.
Speaking of that S word, A LOT of people have been asking me, "when will be seeing snow in the St. John's area?" And that's a very tough one to answer. Up until now when faced with that question... I've usually just said something sarcastic and then walked away. Because as you know, in this Province, the weather is tough enough to predict 24 hours in advance let alone a couple of weeks ahead. However, if I HAD to answer that dreaded question...when will the Snow shovels come out East of Terra Nova Park? I would have to say... Based on the long range forecast models, it looks like the stormy pattern will certainly continue for the Province, with perhaps another coastal type storm early next week and another one perhaps next weekend. And, there's no doubt Labrador and maybe even the Western part of the Island will see some Snow thanks to those systems. However, the cold air just isn't there to support Snow for St. John's or the Eastern part of the Island. Until perhaps, late the week of December the 8th. Beyond say, December 10th... I'm finally starting to see signs in the long range models that indicates Old Man Winter might just decide to pay St. John's and the Avalon a visit. The cold air would be far enough East and would be deep enough in the upper atmosphere and at the surface to support some type of snowfall. How much? Who knows. Will it stay? Way to early too tell. Again, this is a long way out... a lot can happen between now and then... and we all know what they say about the weather in this Province... "wait 5 minutes."
In fact, wait 5 minutes and I'll probably change my mind about when we could see snow on the Avalon.

See you tonight on Here & Now.

You're doing a fantastic job keeping us informed of impending weather here in Labrador. We've listened to the forecasts in the past but didn't really have a whole lot faith in it at times. Since CBC has brought Ryan to the viewers here in this area, we tune in every night to hear what he is predicting and he really does know his stuff. Thank you Ryan for bringing credibility back into NL weather forecasting and for doing it with such enthusiasm. We'd like to keep you with us for a long time.
