Coldest Airmass Of Season For Island... Flurries!

Hey Folks,

There's no doubt, back on the 24th of September, things were very cool across the Island. Winds were in from the North... temperature highs were in the single digits across the Island... and close to the freezing mark in Labrador. In fact, the winds were so cool moving in over the warmer ocean water that ice pellets were falling and even some light snow was spotted in Gander.
Well, the airmass currently moving into the Province is just as, if not even Colder. Winds have again shifting in from the Northwest and the air blowing in is very very fall like. In fact you only have to go up 700 to 1000 metres (1km) to find air below freezing today.

As temperatures creep towards the freezing mark tonight... or even below the freezing mark in Central Newfoundland... and a weak trough sinks South over the Island... there's a very good chance that some areas will be seeing their very first snowflakes of the season.
In fact, both the GFS (American) and now the Canadian model are predicting some light snowfall through the overnight tonight and early tomorrow morning.

The Canadian Model is a little lighter on the snowfall... but still widespread on the rain-snow mix.

There's even a chance we could see a few flurries falling in the St. John's area as well... with the temperature dripping to 2 or 3 degrees overnight. Either way... keep those eyes pealed and make sure you snap some pictures and send them in so I can show them on the air.

Whether you see flurries or not... Wednesday morning will be a Frosty wake up for everyone across the Province. So grab the gloves... and dare I say the touque. It'll be Chilly.
