It’s impossible to measure the impact of the flash fire that killed Wayne Dalton and left Pat Stamp in hospital for months.

What happened on the MV Kometik in April 2006 tore through families and changed them in complicated ways.

Pat's recovery still continues, but the new appearance he received from Bob Barron has brought him to a new phase in his life.

“Everybody sees it. My family. His. He’s a different Pat. He’s a much better Pat. A nicer guy to live with,” said Madonna Stamp, smiling at her husband.

Madonna said she felt a sadness she couldn’t explain after seeing Pat with his new prosthetic ears and nose.

“Something came over me … some feeling of having to say goodbye. It was very sad. I felt very emotional and at the time, I didn’t really realize what was going on. I was saying goodbye. I’ve had two people in this person already now. Gone,” said Madonna.

“This is a different Pat, but this is a great Pat and the other Pats were great too.”

Madonna heaps praise on Bob Barron.

Bob gave me a new man, he really did. He is the best. He is more than a magician. He is an angel ... He performs miracles.

Bernadette Stamp talked about how hard it was to see her son after the accident.

“I didn’t see Pat. It was horrible to look at. It was like someone threw a bucket of blood over him. That’s all I could see,” said Bernadette Stamp.

“I think [Bob Barron] did a great job. He can do wonderful things.”

She’s seen other positive changes too.

“Pat wouldn’t be home in St. Vincent’s today if [the fire] hadn’t happen. You wouldn’t wish for it to happen to get him home, but it’s great to have him home. He visits me with Madonna every night – we have a cup of tea and a little row sometimes,” said Bernadette laughing.
