The program that has been showcasing the culture and history of this
province for decades is celebrating its 40th anniversary. LAND & SEA,
produced continuously for 39 years in Newfoundland and Labrador, starts
its 40th season Friday, October 15th at 7:00 p.m. / 6:30 in Labrador on
CBC Television.
This new season begins with a 40th anniversary special that tells the story of CBC’s longest running regional current affairs program. This program takes a look back at the LAND & SEA history, from its conception in a St. John’s studio, to becoming one of this province’s most beloved and celebrated programs. It brings you stories from the people who’ve shaped LAND & SEA and who’ve made it what it is:, the hosts, technicians, and producers.
“I’m honoured to be part of its legacy,” says Pauline Thornhill, host of LAND & SEA. “The climate and culture of our province has evolved over the past four decades. Our crews continue to document this evolution as we travel around the island and Labrador, capturing its peoples’ stories, and a changing way of life.” Through the years, LAND & SEA has received much national acclaim for its superior quality writing, production and programming. Most recently, the program was awarded a 2004 Gracie Allen Award, winning in the national category, Best Magazine Show for its program: Built From Scratch, the story of the mother and the tiny bakery that defied all the odds. “It has become a household name in this province,” says Paul Hambleton, Managing Editor, CBC Television. “Nowhere else can a viewer expect, and find, such an uplifting and positive reflection of the life and times of a province. Land & Sea has achieved this through a steady stream of unique and often heart felt programs.”
