A break on a long, long, long-running strike?

We may learn something today about a strike that is most notable for having lasted so long.

It’s the strike involving community support workers on the Burin Peninsula, who work with developmentally delayed adults who were hired through a program to clean the College of the North Atlantic.

The strike started in November, and has dragged on since. A key issue has been that the provincial government maintained it was not responsible in the case, as the employer is the Burin-Marystown Community Training and Employment Board.

A conciliator was brought in a couple of weeks ago, with (notably) the provincial government at the table.

NAPE president Carol Furlong has scheduled a news conference for 11 this morning to give an update on the talks.

We’ll keep you posted.
