It Gets Better
Colleagues at CBC Radio in Toronto produced the video below as part of the It Gets Better campaign, which has drawn voices together to promote tolerance, including beyond the original aims of helping gay teens see there’s a brighter side past school. Some of the voices are recognizable, some less so, but all have something meaningful to say. Have a look.

Pride parade
A parade closing out the Pride 2010 celebrations was held in St. John’s this afternoon. Beautiful day for it.

The ban on gay blood donors
The blood bank in St. John’s had some extra visitors on Thursday, but they didn’t to donate blood. They would have if they could have, but they can’t.
It was a demonstration against the long-standing Canadian Blood Services prohibition against men who have had sex with men. The gay community says the rule is wrong, and discriminates against many potential donors.

Pride 2010: It's on
The familiar multi-hued flag was raised at St. John’s city hall today, letting one and all know that Pride 2010 is underway. The 10-day festival celebrating the gay and lesbian community in particular, and an inclusive community in general.
You can find out all about Pride 2010 right here. Activities start with a reception tonight and continue through the week into next weekend. The schedule includes everything from a scavenger hunt to a boat tour to a picnic in Bannerman Park. The festival concludes with a downtown parade on July 25.
