Rising concern about rising HIV/AIDS numbers

Do you think HIV/AIDS is a disease on the wane? You’d be wrong. New numbers in fact show that the number of cases in Canada has risen to 1982 levels, when professionals were still trying to figure out what HIV was. That said, AIDS is no longer the life-threatening illness that it once was, in large part because of improved treatments.

However, professionals are worried about a complacency about risk … and the numbers that seem be bearing that out.

To get a sense of what’s happening, both across the country and in Newfoundland and Labrador, Here & Now’s Debbie Cooper spoke with Christopher Pickard, executive director of the AIDS Committee of Newfoundland and Labrador.
