Visit the mall, go straight to jail
A trip to the mall turned out to be a risky move for a young man in St. John’s this weekend.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary told us in their morning report today that a 19-year-old man was brought into custody after he was found in the Avalon Mall.
The catch: there were court orders prohibiting him from going to that very place. Police took the young man into custody. He’s scheduled to appear in provincial court later today on four charges.

Stolen: one dory
Dories are icons of our outport past, and they’re still quite functional in plenty of coastal communities.
They’re also, evidently, valuable enough to steal.
The Mounties on the Burin Peninsula sent us an interesting release, that they’re investigating the “theft of a small dory from a pond one kilometer south of the Terrenceville turnoff on Route 210.”
The boat seems to have been stolen in a specific weekend, between Sunday, June 17, and Tuesday, June 20.
The eight-foot boat is grey, with pink gunwhales.
