Recently tagged Atlantic Journalism Awards

Journalists with CBC in Newfoundland and Labrador have earned nine nominations in this year’s Atlantic Journalism Awards, according to details released today.

Our coverage of Hurricane Igor in September and in the weeks that followed led to several of the nominations.

The news team’s coverage for Igor was nominated in the spot news (radio), spot news (TV) and online news categories, as well as for continuing coverage (radio).

Also nominated: reporter David Cochrane and videographer Paul Pickett for enterprise reporting, for a series of reports on the changing face of crime in oil-rich St. John’s; Chris O’Neill-Yates, for continuing coverage (radio), for reports on the evacuation of the SeaRose platform last fall; Julien Lafille and videographer Mathieu Theriault, for feature writing (TV) for a report from Fogo; and Natalie Kalata and Peter Cowan, who are both nominated in the videojournalist category.

The awards will be presented in Halifax in May.

HALIFAX, April 4 /CNW/ - The Atlantic Journalism Awards (AJAs) is pleased to announce the finalists in the 2010 competition. The finalists’ names are listed in alphabetical order by first name in 29 separate categories.

The awards will be presented during the gala event at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel on Saturday evening, May 7, 2011.
