Danny Williams and Mark Critch consult 'Codfather' Gordon Pinsent
Danny Williams has had a long-running relationship with 22 Minutes, either being the butt of a joke or more likely being in on the joke himself.
On Tuesday night, the retiring Williams bowed out with a star-studded sketch with regular foil Mark Critch that also featured Gordon Pinsent (who had a recent star turn in a sketch about Justin Bieber’s memoir) … and Allan Hawco and Sean McGinley in Republic of Doyle mode.
If you haven’t seen it already, we’ll bet you’ll want to take a look. In fact, chances are excellent you’ll watch it again.

Oh yeah! Jake Doyle has a date with the red carpet
Nominations for the Gemini Awards were announced today, and there was some good news for Republic of Doyle, the St. John’s-set detective show where the characters are as colourful as the houses.
Here are the relevant nominations, with - where applicable - the episode titles that brought the nominations.

Here are some details from CBC Arts’ coverage of the nominations:
Allan Hawco, star of the Republic of Doyle as well as creator and producer, said he was delighted to see the show get five nominations and “very proud” to see cast members honoured for their performances.
“I’m not surprised, especially in the case of Rachel [Wilson] and Lynda [Boyd] - they are such great talent,” he said. “They bring such truth and honesty to the work.”
Wilson is nominated for best supporting actress in a drama and Boyd for best lead actress in a drama. Hawco also has a nomination.
“People in St. John’s have been very supportive,” he said. “All I’ve been trying to do is tell stories as best I can and try to make it as entertaining and fun to watch as possible.”*
Some had been hoping that Gordon Pinsent would get a nomination for the rum-running rogue he played earlier this year, but it was not to be.
The Rick Mercer Report, meanwhile, picked up four nominations, including best comedy, best individual performance, best direction and best photography.

Allan Hawco chooses NL. Do you?
If you’re on Facebook, you may have noticed a campaign called I Choose NL. It seems simple enough: participants are asked to give their name, and an explanation about why they like Newfoundland and Labrador.
As I understand it, it’s a social media campaign carried out by M5, one of the more seasoned communications and marketing in St. John’s. One part of the campaign is self-evident: to promote a patriotic kind of feeling among people in the province (and, perhaps, those living away who are still quite fond of it). The campaign also seems to be about social media itself, of how we connect to each other through various tools that didn’t even exist several years ago.
And yes, that’s Allan Hawco of Republic of Doyle fame. This picture was posted Sunday to the show’s very popular Facebook page, and generated scores and scores of comments among fans.
