September 24, 2010 3:45 PMUpdate from MHA Darin King to his District:
Pedestrian traffic is being permitted at Rattle Brook - people are being escorted across.
Long Pond Bridge has been closed temporarily to allow for further maintenance work. It is expected to last approximately two hours.
Eastern Health has set up a special centre to help people who've been isolated by Hurricane Igor and need urgent medical care or supplies. The toll-free number is 1-888-382-4474. The email address is logistics.igor@easternhealth.ca.
Urgent announcement for people on Fogo Island...power will be out throughout the
island from 12:30 to 4:30 today to conduct emergency repairs on the Fogo Island
substation.
Latest information from MHA Darin King to his district:
The following is the latest information I have been given:
the highway from Grand Bank to Marystown is passable;
the highway from Grand Bank to Lawn is open.
the highway from Lawn to St. Lawrence is closed;
the highway from Goobies to Bay L'Argent is open.
Please use caution when driving any of these routes as there are still narrow places and minor washouts.
The only break on the Burin Peninsula Highway is at Rattle Brook, where work is ongoing to install a bailey bridge (alternate route).
The estimated time that the Burin Peninsula Highway will reopen is still Sunday, although it could be a little earlier. I will provide an update as I get it.
