BACK 2 BACK STORMS FOR NFLD

Hey I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday!

Things will remain quiet across NL through Wednesday and Thursday, however things are indeed set to turn active on Friday. A system rolling though the Northeast US & Southern Ontario today, will push into the Maritimes on Thursday and then into Newfoundland on Friday. This Storm looks set to bring a healthy dose of both Snow & Wind to the Island. Once again, over Southeastern sections of the Island it appears the Snow will change to Rain on Friday afternoon & evening.

The latest GEM, Canadian & European models are all showing a solid 20-30 cm shot of Snow for Central & Western Newfoundland. However forecast models are still up in the air in terms of Snowfall amounts over the Southeast and Metro. The timing of that change over will be key as to whether we see a few wet cm or some double digit snowfall. Here's a sample of the latest thinking for Snowfall amounts by Saturday evening.

THE NEXT ONE

As this system departs Saturday night & into Sunday, the focus will already be shifting to the next Storm, which currently looks like a doozy. This one is still a long ways out, but it appears this could be a powerful system with lots of Wind & Snow. Once again the track will be key, as of today (Wednesday) some forecast models have a track right up though Central Newfoundland, which would mean a change to rain again for Eastern Nfld.

However, if the system tracks just East of the Island, everyone would be looking at Snow. Again, this thing is still 4-5 days out, but right now it looks like it could be a powerful storm capable of dropping a lot of Snow.

Stay tuned to the Live Blog for latest on these 2 systems as they move in.
