Wednesday Storm Update

Hey Folks,

What a wake up across the Island this morning...

-Here in Eastern Newfoundland it was Raining buckets with Winds Gusting 80-90 km/h. In the Metro area we picked up about 30 mm this morning... however as of the Noon hour you can see we have a dry punch working over the region. That means just showers and drizzle this afternoon and winds have already started to ease... NE 40-60 km/h is on the menu for the afternoon.

-What a wake up in Central. Forecast models were certainly flirting with the idea of Wet Snow mixing in with Rain this morning in Central Newfoundland, however there wasn't a forecast model that I know of, that was predicting temperatures would dip cold enough for this! Proof that just a few degrees can make a big difference!

-As of Noon the Snow has changed to Rain in Gander and will slowly continuing to change over in the Grand Falls-Windsor area this afternoon. Central is in for a very wet and windy afternoon. Generally 20-30 mm of Rain is on the menu today, with as much as 30-40 mm in places like the Bay of Exploits and along the Coast to Bonavista Bay.

-The West Coast will continue to see Rain mixing with Snow in the higher elevations. Some places along the long range mountains could pick up as much as 5-10 cm of Snow today. In Corner Brook, and places closer to sea-level 15-30 mm of Rain.

-By this evening the centre of our Storm will be working just East of the Avalon, which means more Rain developing across the Avalon and Eastern Newfoundland, we could pick up another 5-15 mm through the overnight hours. Winds will change in from the Northwest and start to gust to 70-90 km/h overnight. The Rain will continue to pour down in Central Newfoundland, especially along the North Coast. The Bay of Ex could pick up 20-30 mm overnight with amounts decreasing inland. The West Coast is looking at another 10 mm overnight as well.

-As the temperature drops tonight, Snow will once again be mixing in Central Newfoundland. Higher elevations in areas like the Baie Verte Peninsula and into Grand Falls-Windsor, and especially the Long Range Mountains are the best bet to continue to see Snow tonight... and even as we work throughout the day on Thursday.

-And yes... of course more Rain is on the menu for Thursday. Right now it looks like anywhere from 10-20 mm of Rain through Central Newfoundland and 5-10 mm along the West Coast and Eastern Newfoundland.

-Much more on your Thursday story tonight on Here & Now.

-This is the GEM REG model from last night/this morning. You can this model continues to forecast 100+ mm of Rain for some sections of the North Coast of the Island by Thursday evening.

THE NEXT ONE(S)

-This is the next system I'm watching which will also track just Southeast of the Island on Friday. It won't be anywhere near the size and strength of our current system. However, once again it will bring the threat of wet snow to Central Newfoundland... and maybe... just maybe... Eastern Newfoundland and the Avalon.

There's also a system looming for Sunday and into Halloween Day on Monday. This could be a VERY interesting system for Eastern Newfoundland. Again, the setup has cold air flooding in behind as the system slides just to the Southeast. The American and Euro are both clipping the Avalon with this system, while the Canadian keeps it to the South and East.

Stay tuned!
