How you do that is up to you. It could big or small. You could organize an event or set up a meeting with a local councillor about a community issue.
Here's what some candidates did last year. We are putting no limits on how you raise awareness. Be creative, responsible with your actions and your time, and be heard in your community.
It is also important to document your event in some way. Again, this is a great opportunity to be creative. Try to videotape it if you can and send it our way so we can post it online. How? Upload your event video to your YouTube account. make sure the video is embeddable. Contact the Interactive Producer to let us know you've done this and include the YouTube URL of your new video so we can embed it back onto our site.

Also, make sure you contact your local media, university press or try to get some press online. Figure out a way to be seen and heard if possible. If local media cover your action, please send us the news coverage of it so we can add it to your profile.
We want to see what you've done. Send us videos, pictures, letters from community leaders/representatives, local media coverage - anything to show us how you put your ideas into action!
Please see our Judging Guidelines. They'll give you a sense of what we're looking for.
The community action challenge must take place on or before December 20th, 2008 .At three different points in the competition (see contest timeline), we'll be asking competitors to respond to a video question that we'll post online. These could include a famous person asking an interesting question, a clip from the news of the day or anything else.
Think of these questions as your opportunity to show us more about who you are and what you stand for. These are optional, but the more the judges know about you, the better. Please see Judging Guidelines for more details.
Be sure to check out the contest timeline to find out what to expect throughout the competition. We understand that everyone is busy, but please note you are responsible for meeting all competition deadlines. Please make a note of these important dates because they are requirements to remain eligible in the competition. In order to NOT MISS a deadline -- you should subscribe to the CNGPM blog RSS feed.
