Contest Timeline
- August 22nd: Contest Opens
- Accepting entries as of August 22, 2008.
- September 15th: Campus Tour Starts
- Representatives from Fulbright will visit campuses across Canada to encourage students to enter the competition. Click here for campus tour schedule.
- November 15th: Entries Close
- Deadline for YouTube submissions and entry form to enter this year's competition. Be smart, don't delay! Get your videos in EARLY! Your video is the beginning of your campaign, not the end of your application. It's your chance to rally support early in the race. We are evaluating your ability to build a solid campaign.
- November 20th: Video Question #1
- CBC will post a video question. It is optional to respond to video questions, but you could earn bonus points. Participants have until December 20, 2008 to submit a response either by comment or video post. See the FAQ.
- November 27th: Video Question #2
- CBC will post another video question. Participants have until December 20, 2008 to submit a response either by comment or video post.
- December 4th: Video Question #3
- The last video question posted. Participants have until December 20, 2008 to submit a response either by comment or video post.
- December 20th: Final Challenges Deadline
- Deadline for candidates to hold their Community Action challenge.
Deadline for candidates to submit responses to video questions.
- January 5th: Last Day to Campaign
- Last day to campaign for a phone interview. Note that Web Winner voting does not close this day.
- January 14th at 5 p.m. EST: Web Winner Vote Deadline
- Votes cast for candidates after this day/time will not be counted towards the Web Winner. Click here for Web Winner rules.
- January 12-16th: Phone Interviews
- Judging panel conducts phone interviews with qualifying candidates.
- January 16th: Web Winner Contacted
- Web winner will be contacted by telephone or email. Web winner must accept by January 20th or the runner-up shall be declared winner. Click here for Web Winner rules.
- January 16th: Semi-finalists Announced
- Top eight candidates as selected by the judging committee are announced on the official site.
- February 6th, 7th & 8th: Boot Camp
- Top eight candidates go to Toronto for political Boot Camp. Four finalists are selected at Boot Camp. Finalists must also be available for show rehersals & tapings on February 9th & 10th.
- Wednesday March 18th, 2009 at 8:00 p.m.
- Canada's Next Great Prime Minister broadcast on CBC Television. The show is one hour long.
