Candidates will be evaluated using the following questions for each challenge:

#1 Audition Video

Candidates must submit their video by November 15, 2008.

Videos must answer the question:

What would you do to make Canada a stronger country socially, economically and/or politically?

Videos are evaluated using these questions:

  1. Originality of ideas/solutions/approaches
    • Specifics of the candidate's platform: Candidates stand a much better chance at getting noticed by including specific ideas in these videos, rather than broad concepts. For example, saying a leader should be a visionary is broad, whereas saying a leader should be a visionary by doing x, y and z is specific.
    • How innovative are the candidate's ideas and/or approaches to the solutions he/she proposes?
    • How effective are these ideas as solutions to the challenge(s) the candidate addresses?
    • What impact will the proposed ideas have on the lives of Canadians?

  2. Depth of ideas
    • How well researched are these ideas?
    • Did the candidate consider and address any challenges related to the ideas proposed?
    • How realistic/achievable are these ideas?

  3. Knowledge of politics/current affairs
    • How well does the candidate demonstrate an understanding of the challenges/opportunities facing Canada at present as well as its political/social history?

  4. Presentation skills
    • Is the candidate clear, articulate and organized?
    • How persuasive is the candidate?
    • Does the presentation sound memorized or more natural and conversational?

  5. Personality/Charisma
    • Does the candidate inspire, motivate and engage the audience? Show passion and conviction?
    • Does the candidate exude confidence?
    • Ratings & reviews on the candidate's videos. This reflects the candidate's ability to campaign and get support for his/her ideas.

#2 Community Action

Deadline: December 20, 2008.

The community action challenge will be evaluated using these questions:

  1. Measurable outcomes
    • What were the candidate's goals and were they achieved?
    • How well did the candidate's action relate to their ideas for "What would you do to make Canada a stronger country socially, economically and/or politically?"

  2. Community response
    • What kind of feedback did the candidate receive from people in the community?

  3. Coordination/Logistics
    • What was involved in planning and executing the community action?

  4. Media Impact
    • Did the candidate's community action receive press coverage?

We want to see what you've done. Send us videos, pictures, letters from community leaders/representatives, local media coverage - anything to show us how you put your ideas into action!

#3 Online Activity

Candidates receive a bonus score for their online activity. This can include:

While an online campaign is not mandatory to be in the competition, we encourage all candidates to be as active as possible. Candidates: It is to your advantage to participate and have your voice heard and your presence known. The judging panel may take these into consideration.

Think of this competition as an election campaign. Good luck!
