Amy Marlene Robichaud Wins the 2009 Competition

The 2009 edition of Canada's Next Great Prime Minister aired last night across Canada and after a fierce debate hosted by Alex Trebek and judged by former Prime Ministers Brian Mulroney, Joe Clark, Kim Campbell and Paul Martin, Calgary native Amy Marlene Robichaud won the competition and was awarded $50,000 and paid internships. Congratulations Amy! The three runners up were also awarded cash prizes $5000 and paid internships.

Amy was the second person to enter this season's competition which began online when we asked young Canadians aged 18-25 to post a video to YouTube telling us what they would do to improve Canada politically, socially and economically. Candidates challenged one another's platforms with additional videos and debates in our forums. They also responded to weekly video challenges asking for their opinions on current affairs. Finally, ten semifinalists were selected to come to Toronto to compete head to head at political bootcamp where our four finalists were selected to compete on the nationally televised show.

You can view Amy's activity through this whole process on her profile pages. To see all semifinalist activity, start here and to see videos from all candidates this year, click here.

If you missed last night's show, don't worry! We'll be releasing a special web-only version of the show complete with excerpts from last night's live online debate and deleted scenes. Stay tuned!

UPDATE 6 p.m. ET: We're still in the process of preparing the web version of the show. We'll have it online for you Friday. Thanks for your patience and for the great chat during show night. Please check back Friday for the video.

In Part Three of our four-part series of boot camp videos, It's All in a Day's Work: The Challenges Continue, the 10 semifinalists battle for supremacy in Canadian historical trivia, 10-point ratings on their and the coveted Sir John A. Macdonald doll in a political obstacle course of quizzes and speeches. All this takes place under the intense scrutiny of which the semifinalists are made acutely aware -- scrutiny from not only the competition's judges but also between the 10 determined candidates fighting for those four finalist spots on the televised show.

Canada's Next Great Prime Minister introduces a new interactive element to the show this year. In keeping with the program's values, including the online competition, we are encouraging a new method of debate: We will host a live debate on this website on show night, Wednesday, March 18.

But that's not all! We're holding a contest and you could win prizes for participating. We'll put up the official rules soon, so watch for that, but in short, you enter by contributing your original comments to the chat on show night and you must be a resident of Canada. We'll award 10 Canada's Next Great Prime Minister gift bags, full of goodies for the CBC-politics-interweb kids.

Why else should you participate? Following the March 18 broadcast, we'll also release a web version of the show with selections from the live debate, so your contributions could appear on the online video version of the 2009 show!

Sign up on the <a href"http://www.cbc.ca/nextprimeminister/">main page for an email reminder about the chat. The chat window will remain on the page from now through show night. Get in there and speak up!
