What’s a Torrent?
A Torrent (or BitTorrent) is a way to share files over the internet. It’s different from other file sharing methods because it allows multiple people to share the same file with each other at the same time. This means it’s easier for one computer or network to share a large file (like these videos) and it’s still fast for other people to download it.

The particular files we’re sharing today are two copies of the CBC Television show Canada’s Next Great Prime Minister. You are free to download, share and burn this video.

How do I use a Torrent?

1. If you don’t already have one, download & install a BitTorrent client. This is an application that will download the entire show for you. There are several BitTorrent clients to choose from, including Azureus and Miro. (Got a favourite client? Suggest it in the comments.)
2. Decide which file you want. We’re offering one made for computer playback and another made for mobile video device playback (or take both!)
3. Once the Torrent file is downloaded, double-click it and your BitTorrent client will automatically download the whole show for you. You can monitor the status of your download just as you would when downloading a file through your web browser.

How do I watch the show?
Once you’ve downloaded the show, double-click the completed video file for it to play in your preferred video player. If you’re looking for a video player, VLC supports most video types and works on Windows, Mac & Linux.

We’re also supplying a version that is ready for your iPod or other portable video device. You download this using the same steps I’ve described above, then copy the file to your video iPod or other mobile device that supports video playback.
