Comment migration is underway in the CBC News Community

Categories: Community

We are excited to tell you that we have begun the massive process of migrating all the comments on the website since June 2009 to our new commenting platform.

It is a massive job, but we really feel it is important to keep a digital record of all the great conversations between Canadians we've fostered over the recent years. Not only is it interesting to go back and read them from time to time, but they are a historical record of the times we live in, just like the news stories themselves.

As a result of this migration you may notice your comment total fluctuating.  We want to reassure you that this is a normal part of the process. We take your privacy and personal information extremely seriously and nothing has been compromised.

We don't have an exact completion date for the process of transferring the millions of comments in our archive, but we will keep you posted.  Not only is it a big job, but converting the data from one format to another has thrown us a few curve balls. To be honest, we thought we could do it more quickly than is the case.

The good news is that all the comments will be back soon. Many of you have written us asking where they had gone, so we know you noticed. We understand that the archive is important to you.

Thanks for continuing to be a part of the great Canadian conversation here at If you have any questions, suggestions or concerns, don't hesitate to write to us at

To encourage thoughtful and respectful conversations, first and last names will appear with each submission to CBC/Radio-Canada's online communities (except in children and youth-oriented communities). Pseudonyms will no longer be permitted.

By submitting a comment, you accept that CBC has the right to reproduce and publish that comment in whole or in part, in any manner CBC chooses.
