A Chinese television reporter who was preparing for her wedding on Saturday when news of the earthquake that hit Sichuan province first broke has become a viral star.

Chen Ying didn't know the full extent of the damage when she left her own wedding preparations to cover the earthquake.

Ying showed up before the camera dressed in a bridal gown with full makeup on, interviewing locals about the earthquake that had hit the city hours before.

Images and footage of her report quickly went viral on Chinese social media sites, according to the South China Morning Post.

Ya'an itself was spared the brunt of the disaster, but as of Monday at least 188 people are confirmed dead and some 11,000 have been injured as a result of the earthquake.

Ying's story and pictures of her in a bridal gown holding a microphone in front of a disaster area have gone viral, with many people praising her "journalistic commitment."
